The FlyAwaytoHeaven group landed safely last night ( 7 planes and 15 people) at Kalumburu at around 4.15pm, with the twin engine (Geoff from Melbourne) coming in earlier, and carrying Cory and Paul the photographer.  Mitch, the young 16 year old, was the last to land - a good landing it was too.

We ferried them all into our "motel" accomodation and were just in time for Mass at 5.30pm.  After Mass we set ourselves up outside the church, and heard a great country and western concert thanks to Cory and his co-guitarist.  There were quite a lot of the locals, and all the mission people, including Bishop Christopher Saunders from Broome, who was visiting on his way to Kununurra!  The children eventually got over their shyness, and started dancing - they had a great time.

At 7pm we called a halt, after listening to the theme song - and we ( all 30 odd of us ) adjourned to the monastery verandah / dining area for a BBQ tea - all very pleasant, except we ran out of dinner plates - I don't think we have ever had quite such a crowd before!!

This morning it was breakfast under the verandah again, then some of the group went over to the school for another concert, and this also was much appreciated both by the teachers and the children.  Whilst the concert was happening, the others headed back out to the planes, and went through the refuelling process etc.  They finally all took off at safely around 9am, direction Kununurra!

So quite an exciting time for everyone, and today life at Kalumburu Mission slowly returns to "normal" - whatever that may be!!
